Chapter Eleven: Soaking in the Good.

The Story of Good – Learning to Steward the Good Within.

Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink–even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk–it’s all free! ~ Isaiah 55: 1 (NLT)

The Spirit stepped back a moment,

Taking a deep breath.

Looking deeply into my eyes,

He then leaned forward one additional time,

Adding these words to His narrative.

“Excuse Me, child.

I always get a bit excited when I get to this part of Our Story.”

“You see, this is Our Story of Good.

This is your Story of Good.

You share this Story with Us,

And we share this Story with you.”

“Soak Good in.

There is enough here to sustain all of Us;

Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth.”

“All of Us together,

For Eternity.

Amen.”

I sat there quietly,

Staring into the fire, for, who knows, how long?

The words the Spirit had spoken

Were resonating deep within my heart.

My focus was on the flame in front of me.

Could it be that all these things the Spirit was saying were true?

Could it be that after all of these years of trying to avoid Evil,

I was actually focusing on the wrong thing?

Deep in thought,

I felt a strong hand on my shoulder.

I looked up. It was Jesus.

He was staring into my eyes.

Once again, I wondered if I might have offended Him,

Had I asked too many questions?

He smiled.

Ponder on these things:

Over the years which has been your primary focus? Avoiding Evil or doing Good? Why?

Reflect on the feelings evoked when you have attempted to avoid Evil.

Now reflect on the feelings evoked when you’ve chosen to do Good.

Over a period of about eight weeks (3 sessions per week), we will take you on a poetic journey (26-sessions) we call The Story of Good. We suggest you bookmark our blog series homepage to keep all the writings in one place for your future reference. Take note that each blog session begins with a short scripture reading. My suggestion is that you don’t hurry through, or skip the text, but treat it as a Lectio Divina reading where you slow down and sit a bit with God’s Word, allowing it to penetrate and influence you as you read. Each session also ends with a few thoughts to ponder on. I look forward to hearing some of your insight as we journey together!

Oh, and if you enjoy what you’re reading here, we encourage you to share this page and our website, The Contemplative Activist, with your friends!
